The United Legal Defense Fund for Immigrants has raised and deployed over $586,000 since its launch in 2018 to respond to the elevated need for legal defense among immigrant neighbors.

The Fund was created by Cambridge Community Foundation in 2018, in partnership with former Mayor of Cambridge Marc C. McGovern and the City of Somerville, to respond to the stress and uncertainty of immigrants during the Trump Administration and shifts in Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. The need for legal defense has only grown since the COVID-19 pandemic. The most recent work of the Fund included efforts to address the increased demands for asylum and family reunification work in the Afghan community and the parallel needs of Haitian families applying for TPS.

Thank you for joining us in bolstering the capacity for legal support of our immigrant-serving nonprofits.

The United Legal Defense Fund for Immigrants is a Fund at the Cambridge Community Foundation.
