Cambridge School Committee Vice Chair Manikka Bowman and Debby Irving in collaboration with members of the Cambridge community, are launching the Hurricane Laura Relief Effort for North Lake Charles, Louisiana.

On August 26th, Vice-Chair Bowman's hometown Lake Charles was hit by a Category 4 hurricane, causing $20 billion in damage. The storm caused a devastating blow to this moderate-income community, set in a region where 51% of households struggle to make ends meet and 18% live below the Federal Poverty Level. Add to this the impacts of COVID as people try to find temporary housing, secure food and clean water for their families, and ultimately rebuild. The people of Lake Charles, the Louisiana community that shaped Vice-Chair Bowman, is in dire need of support.

Please join this interconnected Cambridge/Lake Charles effort, to send relief to our Lake Charles brothers and sisters. Funds collected will support North Lake Charles’s recovery efforts via the local nonprofit, Black Heritage Gallery.

Funds collected through this effort will be directed to the Beth & Marty Milkovits Donor Advised Fund, at the Cambridge Community Foundation for the benefit of the Black Heritage Gallery. The Cambridge Community Foundation is honored to play a role in supporting this effort. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Michal Rubin, VP of Development at: mrubin@Cambridgecf.org.
